LO5 - Radio Product

Image
This is the Radio Clip I created as my final product. For this clip I tried to emulate the conventions of a popular radio show, like those that would be found on Radio1 and Capital: these included elements like music, humour and a competition. For the dialouge I recorded myself talking into a microphone. I mostly avoided cutting the microphone whilst recording instead just repeating myself whenever there was a mistake or a line didn't sound as good. This was so there wasn't as large a number of files as this could get confusing whilst editing also all of the mistakes were easily edited out using Adobe Audition. I inserted sound effects and background music in some areas of the program, these were mostly used for comedic effect but also to keep viewers interested and break up the pace

I put the rest of my audio together using Adobe premier, this was due to me needing to add images for it to be visible on youtube. I also had a large amount of experience with Premier which would make putting it together much easier For my musical breaks, I added in the beginning and ending of songs, I placed a transition onto these so that the music would fade in and out smoothly. I did this is it is what is heard on radio clips on youtube so that the video can't be flagged but makes sense in the context of the dialogue. I placed a drumroll and cheering sound effect. this was for comedic relief and these effects fit the conventions of an informal lighthearted program. These are the usual types of programs that would play the kind of music I chose t implement, it is also reminiscent of stations like Capital FM and Radio 1.

When recording my script I used an external microphone connected to a Zoom H6 recorder. I did this so that I could have high quality audio whilst still being able to monitor audio levels at the same time. I plugged a pair of headphones into the Zoom whilst recording so that I could hear how I sounded, making it easier to notice if there was any background noise or if I'd have to make any changes to my voice or how it was being recorded

LO3 - Legal and Ethical

When putting a program out on the radio there are specific rules and regulations to make sure that the content being distributed is appropriate for all ages. Similar to TV broadcasting this prohibits certain actions/ types of content during times when children are particularly likely to be listening. These times are listed as 06:00 - 09:00 and 15:00 - 19:00 on weekdays during termtime and 06:00 - 19:00 on weekends and weekdays during holidays. When it comes to offensive language the two most rules are listed as follows. Rule 1.14 “The most offensive language must not be broadcast…when children are particularly likely to be listening”.  Rule 1.16 “Offensive language must not be broadcast…when children are particularly likely to be listening, unless it is justified by the context”.
